What to put on a packing slip.
A clear packing slip helps your team pack the right items and lets the customer check the delivery at a glance. Cover these and there is no guesswork.
Who it is from and to
Your business name and address, and the ship to name and address. Add a separate bill to only if it differs from where the goods are going.
A slip number and date
A unique packing slip number and the date, so the slip can be filed and matched to the order later without any guesswork.
The order it belongs to
The order or purchase order number and the order date, so the receiver can line the shipment up against what they asked for.
Carrier and tracking
The ship date, who is carrying it, and the tracking number, so anyone can follow the parcel and confirm when it should arrive.
Every item and quantity
A line for each product with its code or SKU, a short description, the quantity ordered and the quantity actually packed, so shortfalls are obvious.
Notes and a signature line
Any handling instructions, plus a received by line, so the person taking delivery can sign to confirm the contents arrived in full.
Packing slip, invoice or shipping label?
Three different pieces of paper travel with a shipment, and they each do a different job. Here is what sets them apart.
Shows: The contents, no prices
Lists what is in the shipment and how much of each, so the person unpacking can check it against their order. It leaves prices out on purpose.
Shows: The same items, with prices
The request for payment. It carries the prices, tax and total, and usually goes to the finance team by email rather than in the parcel.
Shows: Addresses and a barcode
What the courier reads to route and deliver the parcel. It shows the addresses and a tracking barcode, not the contents of the box.
Stock and shipping that keep up.
This tool is great for a one off packing slip. But once you are shipping every day, you want stock that updates as orders go out, slips and labels that print straight from each order, and a clear record of what was packed and by whom. That is the kind of inventory, ERP and order management software we build at Techliphant, shaped around how your business actually works.

Common questions.
A packing slip is a document that travels inside a shipment and lists what is in the box. It shows the items and the quantity of each, along with the order and delivery details, so the person receiving the goods can check that everything they ordered actually arrived. It is also called a packing list or a waybill in some places.
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark on your PDF, and no limit on how many packing slips you can make. It runs entirely in your browser, so you can use it as often as you like.
No, and that is the point of it. A packing slip lists the items and quantities but leaves out prices, tax and totals. That way you can drop it in the box for the warehouse and the recipient to check the contents, without putting the order value in front of everyone who handles the parcel. The prices live on the invoice instead.
A packing slip lists what is in a shipment, with quantities but no prices, and travels with the goods. An invoice lists the same items with their prices and tax, and is a request for payment that usually goes to the finance team. Many orders use both: the packing slip goes in the box, and the invoice is emailed or posted separately.
A clear packing slip has your business details and logo, the ship to details, a packing slip number and date, the order it relates to, the ship date and carrier with a tracking number, and a line for each item with its code, description, quantity ordered and quantity packed. A notes section and a received by line round it off.
They are almost the same thing, and in many businesses the terms are used interchangeably. A delivery note tends to be the copy the customer signs to confirm they received the goods, while a packing slip is more about listing the contents for checking. This tool works for either, since it covers the contents, the order details and a signature line.
Quantity ordered is how many of an item the customer asked for, and quantity packed is how many you actually put in this shipment. Showing both makes any shortfall or back order easy to spot at a glance. If you are sending everything in one go, the two numbers simply match.
Yes. Upload your logo and it sits at the top of the slip and in the PDF. You can fill in the ship date, the carrier you are using and the tracking number, along with the number of packages and the total weight, so the receiver has everything they need to follow and check the delivery.
Yes. Once your packing slip looks right in the preview, download it as a PDF with one click, ready to print and slip into the box. You can also send it straight to your printer. The PDF is generated on your own device, so nothing is uploaded.
It is not always required, but it is good practice for anything you ship physically. It helps your team pack the right items, gives the customer a quick way to check the delivery, and creates a simple record if anything is missing or damaged. For a business shipping regularly, it saves a lot of back and forth.
Yes. The whole tool runs in your browser. Your business details, the shipping addresses and the item list are never sent to a server or saved anywhere by us, so everything stays on your own device.
It is meant for quick, good looking packing slips, not for running a warehouse. Once you are shipping every day, you want stock that updates as orders go out, slips that print straight from each order, and a record of what was packed and by whom. That is the kind of inventory, ERP and order management software we build at Techliphant if you get to that point.
Disclaimer: This packing slip generator is provided free for general business use. A packing slip records the contents of a shipment and is not a tax invoice or a proof of payment. You are responsible for the details and quantities you enter, and for meeting any shipping, customs and record keeping rules that apply to you. Nothing here is legal, tax or accounting advice.
