One file or several. Everything stays on your device.

Compression level

Your PDF is opened and rebuilt on your own device, never uploaded. Each page is redrawn as a sharp image, so the file gets smaller but its text is no longer selectable. Best for scans, photo PDFs and slide decks. Keep your original if you still need to edit the text.

Best for scanned and image-heavy PDFs. Text is rebuilt as part of each page image, so keep your original if you still need to edit it.

How it works

A smaller PDF in four steps.

Add your PDF, choose a level, and download. The whole thing happens on your own device, so confidential documents never leave your computer.

1

Add your PDF

Drag and drop a PDF, or choose one from your device. Add several and compress them together if you like.

2

Pick a level

Choose Strong for the smallest file, Recommended for a good balance, or Light to keep more detail.

3

Compress

The tool rebuilds each page right here on your device and shows the old size, the new size and how much you saved.

4

Download

Save the smaller PDF, ready to email, upload or attach. If it could not shrink, you keep your original.

What to expect

Built for real documents.

Great for scans

Scanned documents and photo PDFs shrink the most, often to a fraction of their size.

Pick your level

Strong for the smallest file, Recommended for balance, Light to keep pages crisp.

Stays private

Contracts, statements and IDs are rebuilt on your device, never uploaded.

Ready to send

Download a lighter PDF that slips under email and upload size limits.

Why use it

Private, honest and free.

Runs in your browser

Your PDF is opened and rebuilt on your own device. It is never uploaded, so private and confidential files stay with you.

Three compression levels

Trade size against sharpness. Strong squeezes hardest, Light keeps pages crisp, Recommended sits in between.

Best for scans and image-heavy files

Scanned documents, photo PDFs and slide decks shrink the most, often to a fraction of their size.

Keeps the page layout

Page sizes and order are preserved, so the compressed PDF looks the same and prints at the right dimensions.

Compress a batch

Add several PDFs at once. Each is compressed with the same level and totalled so you can see the overall saving.

No sign-up, no watermark

Free to use with nothing added to your file. No account, no email, and no logo stamped on your pages.

For document-heavy teams

Handling PDFs at scale?

A quick compress in the browser is perfect for the odd file. But if your business runs on documents, invoices, contracts, statements or scanned records, you may want compression, merging, splitting and text-preserving optimisation built into your own system, on your own servers. That is the kind of software we build at Techliphant.

Compress PDF FAQs

Common questions.

It is a free online tool that makes a PDF file smaller so it is easier to email, upload or store. You add a PDF, choose how hard to compress it, and download a lighter version. This one does all of that in your browser.

Yes. It is free, there is no sign-up, and it does not add a watermark to your pages. You can compress as many PDFs as you like for personal or business use.

No. The PDF is opened and rebuilt entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so contracts, statements, ID documents and other private files never leave your device. That is a real difference from tools that upload your file to compress it.

It reads each page, redraws it as a high quality image at a sensible resolution, and rebuilds the PDF from those pages. Bulky, high-resolution scans and photos are the main thing that makes a PDF large, so re-saving them at a lighter setting is what brings the size down.

No, and this is the honest trade-off. Because each page is rebuilt as an image, text stays perfectly sharp to read and print but is no longer selectable or searchable. This tool is best for scanned documents, image-heavy files and decks. If you must keep selectable text, keep your original for editing.

Start with Recommended, it balances size and clarity for most files. Use Strong when you need the smallest possible file for a size-limited upload and can accept softer detail. Use Light when the pages have fine print or detailed images you want to keep crisp.

Some PDFs are already well optimised, and files that are mostly plain text can actually get larger when redrawn as images. When the result would be bigger than your original, the tool keeps your original instead, so you never end up with a heavier file. If that happens, your PDF is likely already compact.

There is no hard limit, but everything runs in your browser, so very large or very long PDFs use more memory and take longer. Long documents of hundreds of pages may be slow on a modest device. If it struggles, try one file at a time.

Not at the moment. A PDF that is locked with a password to open cannot be read, so remove the password first, then compress the file. Nothing you compress here is stored, so it is safe to work with sensitive documents once they are unlocked.

Some, and how much depends on the level. Pages are saved as images, so the higher the compression, the softer fine detail becomes. At Recommended and Light most documents still look clean on screen and in print. Compare and step back a level if a scan looks too soft.

Yes. Add a batch and they are all compressed with the level you choose. Each shows its own saving, and you can download them individually as they finish.

Yes. If you handle a lot of documents, we can build compression, splitting, merging, watermarking and text-preserving optimisation into your product or back office, running on your own servers. That is the kind of software we build at Techliphant.

Private by design: your PDF is opened and rebuilt entirely in your browser, so it is never uploaded or stored. Because each page is redrawn as a sharp image, the file gets smaller but its text is no longer selectable or searchable. This tool is best for scanned documents, photo PDFs and slide decks. Keep your original if you still need to edit the text.
